LITTLE ROCK — The White House has amended a recent federal disaster declaration to include Ashley County, U.S. Rep. Mike Ross’ office announced Thursday.
The April 27 declaration initially made Miller, Polk and Sevier counties eligible for individual assistance to recover from storms that rolled through the state April 9. Ross said he worked with Gov. Mike Beebe’s office and the Federal Emergency Management Agency to get Ashley County added to the list.
The declaration will provide financial assistance for underinsured and uninsured storm victims, as well as temporary unemployment insurance.
The White House also issued last month a public-assistance disaster declaration that includes Ashley, Howard, Miller, Polk and Sevier counties. That declaration provides assistance for damages to public infrastructure.
The April 9 storms killed three people in Polk County and damaged hundreds of homes.
