Bank executive dies in motorcycle accident

Arkansas News Bureau

LITTLE ROCK — North Little Rock bank executive Thomas E. Steves Sr. was remembered Wednesday as consummate professional and avid biker.

Steves, executive vice president for Twin City Bank, died Tuesday afternoon when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a tractor-trailer rig at the intersection of Arkansas 107 and Arkansas 89 west of Cabot in Pulaski County. He was 68.

The accident occurred about 3:50 p.m. when Steves attempted to “lay the (motorcycle) down” to try and avoid an 18-wheeler that had entered the intersection, state police said.

Steves was thrown into the rear of the trailer. The driver of the tractor-trailer, Jerry Woods of McCrory, was not injured, authorities said.

A memorial service for Steves is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at First Assembly of God in North Little Rock.

“He is going to be missed by no telling how many folks,” Twin City Bank President and CEO Bob Birch said Wednesday. “Obviously it’s tragic,” Birch said, adding that Steves was on vacation and “doing something he loved, riding his Harley.”

“Tom had distinguished careers, both in banking and advertising, and he was a tireless working as a volunteer in various organizations to benefit the community,” said Little Rock public relations executive Wayne Cranford. “In a word, Tom was dependable. He never failed in what he sat out to do, and he always did it with kindness and a smile. He loved life and his family very much.”

Steves is survived by his wife, Robin, a daughter, son and two grandchildren.
