Lincoln resolution honors recruiting center victims

Arkansas News Bureau

LITTLE ROCK — In a resolution introduced on the Senate floor today, U.S. Sen. Blanche Lincoln condemned a deadly shooting attack at a Little Rock military recruiting center.

Army Pvt. William Andrew Long of Conway died in the attack June 1 outside the Army-Navy Career Center in west Little Rock and Pvt. Quinton Ezeagwula of Jacksonville was wounded.

Muslim convert Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad, 23, of Little Rock, is charged with capital murder and terrorism charges in the attack.

“Private Long and Private Ezeagwula were targeted in what I view as an act of terrorism because of the uniform that they wore — a uniform that stands as a symbol of their country,” Lincoln said in a speech on the Senate floor. “Our country owes a great debt to Private Long for his service as well as to all the brave men and women in the armed forces who protect and defend the freedoms we cherish as Americans every day. My thoughts and prayers go out to Private Long’s family and to all those who knew and loved him.”

U.S. Sens. Mark Pryor, D-Ark., and Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., are co-sponsors of Lincoln’s resolution.
