At 11 a.m. tomorrow at the state Capitol, several eastern Arkansas public officials representing the Mississippi Delta Grassroots Caucus will hold a news conference to, I rather suspect, deplore this recent business about how the solution in the Arkansas Delta is to consolidate people into communities “worth saving” for their “quality of place.”
A Delta Regional Authority consultant from Austin came up with the idea, then outgoing Authority official Rex Nelson endorsed it to columnist David Sanders, who liked it, and then I came in with a column on all of that declaring the eventual and inevitable correctness of the notion, while citing the obvious human and practical concerns.
