LITTLE ROCK — Entergy Arkansas’ customers will see their rates decrease by 3 percent starting Sept. 1, the company announced today.
In a filing with the state Public Service Commission, Entergy said it will reduce the fuel-cost portion of customers’ monthly electric bills from 1.552 cents per kilowatt-hour to 1.206 cents. That means the monthly bill of a typical residential customer who uses 1,000 kilowatt-hours per month will drop from $110.17 to $106.71, a decrease of $2.46, the company said.
A significant decline in natural gas prices in recent months and projected natural gas prices for the rest of the year made the rate reduction possible, Entergy said in a news release. Gas prices have fallen from a 2008 average of $9.07 per 1 million British Thermal Units to $4.34 for January through May of this year.
The price drop resulted in an over-collection of about $75 million, which Entergy said it will return to customers with interest through the rate reduction.
