Highway Department to tweet highway conditions

Arkansas News Bureau

LITTLE ROCK — The state Highway and Transportation Department announced today it will begin using the Internet service Twitter to notify motorists of highway conditions across the state.

“Using Twitter will allow the department another way to deliver information quickly and efficiently,” state Highway Director Dan Flowers said.

Along with Twitter, the department said it will continue using the news media and electronic bill boards to keep motorists informed of up-to-the-minute road conditions, such as lane closures, traffic accidents and weather delays.

Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables users to send and receive short messages known as tweets.
