Overall, Cabot schools are doing very well, maintaining high standards, and making improvements where needed, Superintendent Tony Thurman said during the annual report to the public. The report was made during the school board meeting held Thursday.

About 2:45 p.m., Sept. 16, 1942, two Japanese torpedoes tore into the USS Wasp, CV-7, the aircraft carrier on which Lonoke native Temple Herron was serving. Almost six hours later, five more U.S. torpedoes put an end to the dying ship’s struggle to stay afloat.
