Beebe appoints 13 to boards, commissions

LITTLE ROCK – Gov. Mike Beebe today appointed Rep. Johnnie Roebuck, D-Arkadelphia, to the Southern Regional Education Board.

Roebuck, who teaches at Henderson State University, replaces former state Education Comissioner Ken James, who resigned over the summer. Her term on the board expires June 30, 2013.

The appointment was one of 13 the governor made to state boards and commissions. The others were:
—Gerald Carr of Bryant replaces James Johnson on the Board of the Division of State Services for the Blind. His appointment expires June 30, 2013.
—Todd Edwards of Leachville replaces Ronnie Kennett on the Arkansas Northeastern College Board of Trustees. His appointment expires Dec. 31, 2014.
—Norma Gordon of Pine Bluff reappointed to the Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Advisory Committee. Her appointment expires Sept. 30, 2013.
—Richard Marendt, Jr. of Little Rock replaces Rodney Curry on the Distance Learning Coordinating Council. His appointment expires Sept. 1, 2011.
—Hershel Owens of West Memphis replaces Velma Griffen on the Mid-South Community College Board of Trustees. His appointment expires July 1, 2011.
—Steven Sanders Jr. of Mountain Home replaces Robert Mouser on the Distance Learning Coordinating Council. His appointment expires Sept. 1, 2011.
—Dr. Laura Sisterhen of Little Rock replaces Kevin Dedner on the Arkansas Tobacco Control Board. Her appointment expires July 1, 2014.
—Curtis Walker of Blytheville replaces Jesse Fleming on the Arkansas Northeastern College Board of Trustees. His appointment expires Dec. 31, 2012.

Appointed to the Arkansas Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission:
—Dr. Jamie Brandon of Magnolia.
—Ernest Cunningham of Helena-West Helena.
—Thomas Dupree of Jacksonville.
—Archie Moore of Little Rock.

These appointments expire Oct. 1, 2013.
