LITTLE ROCK — State police late today were investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision in eastern Arkansas that left a Blytheville woman dead and a state trooper injured.
Vickie Lynn Freemyer, 52, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which occurred about 9:51 a.m. at the intersection of Arkansas 77 and Fleeman Street at Manila in Mississippi County, state police said.
Trooper Andrew Rhew, 30, of Manila was treated at a Jonesboro hospital and released.
“I am saddened for the Freemyer family and our department grieves for their loss. Our prayers are with this family, as well as Trooper Rhew and his family,” State Police Director Col. Winford E. Phillips said.
A state police report said Rhew, a five-year veteran who was on duty at the time, was southbound on the highway when the collision occurred.
The report said witness statements indicated Freemyer was westbound on Fleeman Street and attempting to cross Arkansas 77 when she moved into the path of Rhew’s state police cruiser.
