Blog: Arkansas 7, South Carolina 3 (End of 1st)

That was a fast-moving quarter. Arkansas leads 7-3. Here are some notes and news

• South Carolina almost scored on a long TD run on their first series. Jerry Franklin made a TD saving play on a run that probably would’ve gone 71 yards. Instead, it went about 20. The Razorbacks looked shaky on their first series but buckled down to hold S.C. to a FG.

• The Gamecocks blew a good opportunity though, with some bad offense inside the 10. South Carolina had first-and-goal at Arkansas 4, but ran three run plays that didn’t get in the end zone. They wanted to go for it on fourth down, too, but looked confused at the line and called two timeouts. Then they got a delay of game penalty. South Carolina settled for the FG.

• Broderick Green continues to run with confidence. He had a 14-yard gain on the first play from scrimmage. He also turned in a 39-yard catch and run on a screen play on third down, setting up Arkansas first touchdown. He has been Arkansas’ most effective back so far.

• Joe Adams continues to impress since his return. He scored the first touchdown today on an end around in the first quarter. It was his third touchdown in two games.

• Both quarterbacks have been a little shaky so far in this one, missing on some easy throws. Not sure if it’s the wind, which is gusting in here today, but it hasn’t been pretty so far.

We’ll check back in a little later.
