Alzheimer’s Awareness Month declared by governor

Arkansas News Bureau

LITTLE ROCK — Gov. Mike Beebe today declared November as Alzheimer’s Awareness Month in Arkansas and praised caregivers and organizations that support research.

“Many of us know someone who is suffering, and we recognize that this disease drastically alters the lives not only of the patients, but of friends and family members as well,” the governor said.

Alzheimer’s is a progressive, fatal disease, with no current cure.

Among those attending the ceremony were members of the Task Force on the Effects of Alzheimer’s Disease in Arkansas, created this year by the Legislature.

Also speaking were leaders of two statewide support groups, Alzheimer’s Arkansas and the Arkansas Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
