Blog: Petrino Withdraws From WKU Mix

Western Kentucky is apparently ready to hire a head coach.

But it’s not going to be Arkansas offensive coordinator Paul Petrino, who interviewed with the school on Saturday night.

According to several reports, including this one by The Associated Press, Stanford assistant Willie Taggart will be hired by the school at a press conference set for a little later today. Taggart played and coached at Western Kentucky for “more than a decade,” according to the story. He was in his third season at Stanford as the school’s running backs coach.

Petrino released a statement through Arkansas’ sports information department this morning

“I am very appreciative of the interest Western Kentucky University has shown in me,” Paul Petrino said in the statement. “However, I have withdrawn my name from consideration and my focus is on our remaining games starting this Saturday at LSU.”
