Blog: Paul Petrino on Western Kentucky

We’ve talked plenty about Paul Petrino and his role in the Western Kentucky job search.

We talked to Petrino after the Mississippi State game, when he said he was “flattered” about WKU’s interest. We talked about Petrino’s interview at the school, which came later that night. We talked about his announcement to pull his name from consideration, which came shortly before WKU introduce its new coach. And we talked to Bobby Petrino, who said his brother will be  head coach some day.

But it’s time to finally wrap up this saga with a few more thoughts from Paul Petrino, who spoke to the media after Tuesday’s practice.

Petrino was asked about the opportunity to interview at WKU and what he could gain by the experience. Here is what he said:

“It was a situation where, having been at Louisville and having success and knowing the landscape, it’s a real good program,” Petrino said of the Hilltoppers. “So I just wanted to go up there. It was nice, met with the leaders up there and checked it out. It was a good experience. I wish them all the luck. But I’m just happy to be here. I love it here. My family loves it here and I’m excited to be a Razorback.”

Petrino’s comments were biggest news of the practice. Arkansas worked out indoors Tuesday, starting its prep work for the LSU game on Saturday.

Tackle DeMarcus Love didn’t get in much work during the portion of practice open to the media and explained afterward it was because of an ankle injury that has been bothering him. However, Love said he should be good to go Wednesday and ready to play against the Tigers.

Other than that, Petrino said it was a good work day for the Razorbacks.

“We came out with a lot of energy,” Petrino said. “I think the players are going to be real excited about the game. You could feel the excitement and energy. They were flying around. It went real well. So we’ve just to to keep improving on execution the next two days.”
