There were a couple of reports yesterday afternoon pointing toward an Ole Miss-Oklahoma State matchup in the Cotton Bowl.
There was another pretty solid one that came across last night, too.
The Dallas Morning News posted a story late last night saying a source familiar with the process confirmed that the Rebels would play Oklahoma State in the Cotton Bowl. ESPN’s Ivan Maisel tweeted about it earlier in the day. The Tulsa World also cited a source saying the matchup was expected, too.
There has been no official announcement from the bowl and it won’t be until both conferences agree to release the matchup, according to the story.
The Morning News also cited the source as saying several 7-5 teams from the SEC were considered. It included Arkansas and Tennessee.
What does that mean for the Razorbacks if true? Well, as I wrote about for today’s newspapers all signs are pointing to a Liberty Bowl matchup against the winner of the Conference-USA championship game between East Carolina and Houston. Steve Erhart, the executive director of the Liberty Bowl, said yesterday that the Memphis-based game has had Arkansas on its radar for a few years now.
