JONESBORO — A Craighead County Detention Center chief jailer pleaded guilty to charges of disorderly conduct and third-degree assault on a family member Monday in District Court.
For the assault charge, Judge Keith Black ordered Alfreda Hampton, 56, to enroll in an anger management class Jan. 26 and send proof of completion to court officials. She was fined $105 and $100 in court costs.
Hampton, 1612 Ethel St., Jonesboro, was also fined $105 and $100 in court costs for disorderly conduct.
Jail administrators placed Hampton on administrative suspension after the judge’s ruling.
Further action by county officials is “pending full review and will be decided after the investigation,” Jail Administrator John Smith said.
“There is a myriad of possibilities [of what could happen] — from counseling up to termination,” he said.
According to a report, Jonesboro police arrested Hampton Wednesday at St. Bernards Medical Center after she punched a family member in the throat.
Hampton told officers her brother was sick and being treated at the hospital. She said she was having problems with family members.
After speaking with Hampton, Officer Paul Turney asked her to go to the waiting room so he could speak with her family members.
While walking to the waiting room, Hampton reportedly struck her cousin, Debra Clark of Jonesboro, in the throat, the report said.
Hampton was arrested, taken to the Craighead County Detention Center and cited for the incident.
