Blog: Ryan Mallett, the NFL and Oklahoma

I’ve been away from the blog for a little while. Actually, I’ve been away, period.

I had the day off yesterday, but I’m getting back in the swing of things this morning.

To start, I want to bring your attention to a couple things while we’re at it.

• First, did you see the two columns Harry King has written the past couple days in regard to Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett and the NFL Draft? Harry spoke with ESPN NFL analyst Chris Mortensen about the subject and got some interesting stuff.

The first column, which you can read by clicking here, includes Mortensen’s belief that Mallett would “very likely would be disappointed if he decided to come out after this year.”

The second column went through some of the pros and cons Mortensen has been hearing in regard to Mallett from NFL sources. Most of the pros are obvious. But one general manager told Mortensen that Mallett “can be rattled and lose focus during stretches of games.”

It’s one man’s opinion, but an interesting assessment of Mallett. We’ll have more on the NFL vs. College down the road.

• I wasn’t in Norman, Okla, last night for the Razorbacks’ 67-47 loss to the Sooners. But it was another frustrating night for the Hogs. Rotnei Clarke was blanketed by Oklahoma’s man-to-man defense and scored a season-low 11 points. The Razorbacks had no other answer without Michael Washington (back) and Courtney Fortson (suspension).

Here is Daily Oklahoman columnist Barry Tramel’s take on the game.

And here is a game story from Daily Oklahoman writer David Ubben.
