Fort Smith lawyer recommended to fill vacancy on federal bench

Arkansas News Bureau

LITTLE ROCK — U.S. Sens. Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor, both D-Ark., said today they have recommended that President Obama appoint P.K. Holmes III as a federal judge for the Western District of Arkansas.

Holmes is a partner at the Warner, Smith & Harris law firm in Fort Smith. He served as U.S. attorney for the Western District of Arkansas from 1993-2001.

The senators recommended Holmes for a position that became vacant when U.S. District Judge Robert T. Dawson assumed senior status on the bench.

“I am proud to recommend P.K. Holmes, whose exceptional credentials have qualified him to serve the people of the Western District of Arkansas as a U.S. district judge,” Lincoln said in a news release. “After careful consideration, I am confident that Mr. Holmes has the appropriate experience and qualifications to assume this role. I know that he would capably serve the people of Arkansas, as he has throughout his legal career.”

Pryor said Holmes “stands out as an ideal candidate to serve as U.S. district judge.”
“His breadth of experience in civil and criminal litigation matters and long-standing commitment to a just legal system will serve our state well,” the senator said.
