Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett was named the recipient of a national award earlier today.
What was it?
The National Performer of the Year.
That’s right, the College Football Performance Awards named Mallett their top honoree Monday. If you’ve never heard of it, don’t worry. I hadn’t either until this afternoon. But according to Arkansas’ release: The purpose of the College Football Performance Awards is to provide the most scientifically rigorous conferments in college football. Recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams.

As its recipient, Mallett will get what is touted as the world’s largest crystal football award. It’s called the “Philosopher’s Trophy.” It is a 32-inch K9 optic crystal pyramid with a 13-inch K9 optic crystal football on top.
