Blog: Familiar Name Lands at Memphis

We spent all day yesterday going through Arkansas’ signing class. The 25-player group may not be touted as one of the best in the nation, but Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino and the Razorbacks’ coaching staff are certain they filled their needs. Especially on the defensive line, where linemen like Byran Jones and Calvin Barnett are expected to help make the Hogs much bigger, stronger and physical up front than they’ve been under Petrino.

But one thing I noticed late last night: There’s a familiar face that signed with another school yesterday.

Former Arkansas linebacker Khiry Battle will be heading to Memphis after spending the past year at Northwest Arkansas Community College. Battle was part of Petrino’s first signing class at Arkansas, but was dismissed from the team after a couple of off-the-field incidents. He didn’t play football last year.

The Memphis Commercial Appeal touches on Battle in a story in today’s paper. You can read it by clicking this link.

There’s also a brief summary of Battle’s decision on the Rivals.com site. You can read that by clicking this link.
