Blog: Liberty Bowl Draws Big Ratings

The Liberty Bowl sent out a press release earlier this morning breaking down the television ratings for its 2010 game between Arkansas and East Carolina, which the Razorbacks won 20-17 in overtime.

In short, the bowl said the numbers indicate it was one of the highest-viewed games on ESPN during the bowl season. Specifically, the audience peaked at 10.5 million during the fourth quarter and overtime when the Razorbacks came from behind. It was the highest viewed segment of any bowl game on ESPN.

Here is the press release:

Memphis, Tenn. – The television audience for the 51st AutoZone Liberty Bowl was the 4th largest of all 24 ESPN-televised bowl games during the 2009-10 bowl season and the 21st most viewed bowl game in the history of ESPN. The television audience peaked at more than 10.5 million viewers during the fourth quarter and the overtime period that resulted in a thrilling 20-17 win by Arkansas over East Carolina. This was the first overtime game in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl’s 51-year history.

The highest rated segment of the AutoZone Liberty Bowl delivered more viewers than any other segment of a bowl game on ESPN during the 2009-10 bowl season.

“The tremendous television ratings for the 51st AutoZone Liberty Bowl are a testament to the strong national brand of the AutoZone Liberty Bowl and the compelling action on the field that Arkansas and East Carolina provided,” said Steve Ehrhart, Executive Director of the AutoZone Liberty Bowl.
