Ball State handed the Arkansas baseball team its first loss of the season Saturday, beating the Razorbacks 5-2 here in Baum Stadium.
I’ll have more on the loss a little later. But for now, wanted to give you an update on second baseman Bo Bigham.
Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn said the sophomore will be out for at least one month after injuring his shoulder during Arkansas’ opener on Friday night. Bigham, who left the game in the third inning, was wearing a brace and slign in the Razorbacks in the dugout during Saturday’s game.
“I’m going to say he’s out for at least a month at best,” Van Horn said. “He has a tear. He’s going to try to play through that once he’s healthy and then in the summer he’ll probably have to get it fixed.”
The lengthy loss of Bigham isn’t good news for Arkansas. The Razorbacks expected him to be a vital part of the lineup near the top of the order. Tim Carver replaced Bigham once again in the lineup on Saturday and went 1-for-5. Carver is now 1-for-7 at the plate this season.
“(Bigham is) one of our best players and kind of a catalyst for us,” Van Horn said. “We’ve got to find somebody to go into that two hole that can get it done.”
