COTTON BLOSSOMS BEAT RIDERS IN SEASON FINALE

The Arkansas-Monticello Cotton Blossoms began the game on a 20-4 run and held a 36-14 lead at halftime en route to a 70-55 victory over Southern Arkansas on Saturday in Magnolia. The win snapped a three-game losing streak and allowed the short-handed Blossoms to finish the season on a winning note.

SHORT-HANDED UAPB TOPS GRAMBLING

Arkansas-Pine Bluff was already entering its game at Grambling State minus one starter. Then, right before the game, coach George Ivory decided to hold out Tavaris Washington, the Golden Lions’ fourth-leading scorer, because of a stomach virus.

STAR CITY MUSCLES TO TITLE

FORDYCE — Star City girls basketball coach Becky Brown knew the Dumas Lady Bobcats had a size advantage heading into their Class 4A South Region final Saturday at Paul “Bear” Bryant Arena. After all, the two had clashed two times during the regular season, with Star City coming out on top in both games.
