LITTLE ROCK — Lt. Gov. Bill Halter’s campaign says he has raised $2 million in the month since he announced his Democratic primary challenge to U.S. Sen. Blanche Lincoln.
A campaign spokesman says the final tally won’t be known until closer to the April 15 deadline for filing campaign finance reports.
Lincoln’s campaign, who reported having $5 million on hand at the end of February, has accused Halter of being bankrolled by unions, but the lieutenant governor’s campaign contends more than 95 percent of the money raised over the past month came from individuals.
Lincoln is seeking a third term in the U.S. Senate. Halter was elected lieutenant governor in 2006. D.C. Morrison of Little Rock is also seeking the Democratic nominate in the May 18 primary.
Eight Republicans are vying for the GOP U.S. Senate nomination.
