Blog: Little Rock Won’t Bid on SEC Baseball Tourney

Little Rock was one of seven cities that requested a bid package to host future Southeastern Conference Baseball Tournaments, according to a report in the Birmingham News this morning.

But the report also says Little Rock – or is it North Little Rock – will not be making a bid because of the size of its ballpark.

You can read the full report by clicking this link.

According to Jon Solomon of the Birmingham News, Little Rock, Memphis, Jackson, Miss., Duluth, Ga., Jacksonville, Fla., Montgomery, Ala., have all been sent big packages to compete against Hoover for the tournament. The SEC’s contract with Region’s Park in Hoover runs out after the 2011 tournament. But the report said that the folks in Little Rock will not respond because the Dickey-Stephens Park is “smaller than the SEC’s preference of at least 10,000 seats.”

The seating capacity of Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock is 5,800.

Though the city doesn’t appear to be an option now, it will be interesting to see how the bids go for the SEC Tournament.

Proposals are being accepted from 2012 through 2016.
