Arkansas wrapped up its first practice of the day (the newcomer practice) a few minutes ago.
Here are some of the quick notes:
• OT Anthony Oden was out there with the group, but not for long. Oden left with what looked like a heat-related issue and did not return. He sat on the bench in the shade underneath the Walker Indoor Pavilion and watched the rest of the practice.
• Arkansas has a new quarterback. Brian Beuhner, who is from Louisville, Kent., has walked onto the team. He takes the spot that previously was occupied by Nick Petrino, who decided to hang up his football career to try to get into coaching.
• QB Jacoby Walker is not practicing because of his knee injury. When he does return, he will be wearing a new number. Walker has gone from No. 18 to No. 9
• By my count, there were 46 players out for the newcomers practice. That did include some returning guys like Oden, FB Van Stumon, CB Greg Gatson, QB Brandon Mitchell and DB Jerry Mitchell.
• Speaking of Mitchell …. he has apparently changed positions, going from safety to cornerback. He worked with the corners during the team drills this afternoon.
That’s all for now. I’ll have more later this evening. Especially on Ryan Mallett and his left foot.
