Arkansas may not know who its starting running back will be for the season opener against Tennessee Tech on Sept. 4, but junior Dennis Johnson was named to the Doak Walker Award watch list today.
Johnson — who was third on the team in rushing last season (342 yards) — was one of 49 players on the Doak Walker list. It’s an award Arkansas knows well, considering former running back Darren McFadden was a two-time recipient in 2006 and 2007.
Johnson becomes the latest Arkansas player to be place on a watch list for a national award this summer.
It’s a long list. In fact, it might be the longest list I can remember. Here’s a quick rundown
QB Ryan Mallett (Maxwell Award, Manning Award, Davey O’Brien Award)
RB Dennis Johnson (Doak Walker Award)
WR Greg Childs (Biletnikoff Award)
OL DeMarcus Love (Outland Trophy)
LB Jerry Franklin (Butkus Award)
