2009 Record: 6-6, 5-3 in Sun Belt Conference
Head Coach: Todd Berry is opening his first season as ULM’s head coach and is 29-60 in his career. Berry spent four years at Illinois State (1996-99) and four at Army (2000-03). He was UNLV’s offensive coordinator from 2007-09, working on the same staff as Arkansas wide receivers coach Kris Cinkovich.
ULM vs. Arkansas: 0-8 — but that includes a close call in the last meeting. Arkansas had to rally from behind in the closing minutes to beat ULM 28-27 in Little Rock in 2008.
Key Offensive Stats: 25.6 (points a game); 183.9 (rushing yards a game); 208.4 (passing yards a game); 392.3 (total yards a game)
Key Offensive Player: RB Frank Goodin — The senior is on the watch list for the Doak Walker Award after leading the Warhawks with 1,126 rushing yards last season. He needs 874 rushing yards and nine touchdowns to become ULM’s all-time career leader in both categories.
Key Defensive Stats: 27.3 (points a game); 110.1 (rushing yards a game); 236.9 (passing yards a game); 347.0 (total yards a game
Key Defensive Player: S Darius Prelow — The junior is one of just a handful of defensive players with starting experience. Prelow finished fifth on the team in tackles last season (62) and is the program’s leading returning tackler. The Warhawks will be counting on his leadership against Arkansas.
Did You Know: With Saturday’s game at No. 17 Arkansas, ULM is the only Football Bowl Subdivision or Football Championship Subdivision team to play a ranked opponent in its first game in each of the past three seasons. The Warhawks played No. 10 Auburn in 2008 and No. 2 Texas in 2009.
Did You Know, 2: The Warhawks make it quite clear in their game notes (it’s on the first page, in fact) that they are to be referred to as “ULM” and, really, nothing else. Here are the variations of the name they don’t like: Monroe, La.-Monroe, LAM, La.-Mon., UL Monroe, UL-M, LMU. In addition, the school points out that its official title is University of Louisiana at Monroe, not Louisiana-Monroe.
