LITTLE ROCK — Arkansas Supreme Court Justice Donald Corbin is recovering after doctors on Thursday removed a portion of his lung where a cancerous tumor was found in June.
Corbin, 72, is expected to remain in the cardiovascular intensive care unit at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock for the next few days, court spokeswoman Stephanie Harris said. Doctors successfully removed the upper left lobe of Corbin’s lung following weeks of chemotherapy to shrink the tumor, she said.
Corbin underwent emergency bypass surgery in July after suffering a heart attack.
He and his wife, Dorcy, live in Little Rock and have five children. He was first elected to the Supreme Court in 1990 and was most recently re-elected in 2006 to an eight-year term.
Before becoming a judge, Corbin practiced law in De Queen, Lewisville and Stamps and served as a state representative from 1971-1980. He served on the state Court of Appeals from 1981-1990.
