Arkansas at South Carolina
Key performers
1. Ryan Mallett
He may not be in the thick of the Heisman conversation, but junior Ryan Mallett continues to impress for the Arkansas Razorbacks. A touchdown run in the fourth-quarter and a touchdown pass in the first went well with a solid performance that included another 300-plus yards passing. Mallett’s only miscue was a third-quarter interception that bounced off receiver Jarius Wright into the hands of DeVonte Holloman. Officially, Mallett completed 21 of 30 for 303 yards.
2. Knile Davis
Running back Knile Davis made South Carolina pay on the third play of a 38-yard drive Saturday. Davis took the ball on a sweep right, got in the clear and tightroped down the sideline for a 21-yard touchdown to put the Razorbacks up 24-7. The drive followed an unsuccessful fake punt by the Gamecocks. Davis, still listed as an either-or starter along with Ronnie Wingo Jr. and Broderick Green, has gotten the majority of the opportunities in recent weeks. He also scored from the 2 in the second quarter and over the top for another TD in the third to make it 31-10. Saturday, he had 22 carries for 110 yards.
3. Zach Hocker
Kicking specialist Zach Hocker connected on a career-best 51-yard field goal near the end of the third quarter Saturday. It was his second field goal against South Carolina. He was true on a 41-yard field in the second quarter and added four PATs to keep his perfect record intact. Officially, Hocker is 38-of-38 on the season. A missed extra point attempt against Vanderbilt was not counted against Hocker’s record, blamed on a bad snap.
4. Cobi Hamilton
With Greg Childs out for the season, sophomore wide receiver Cobi Hamilton got the call to start against South Carolina. He responded by leading the team in receptions with seven for 111 yards. He scored the game’s first touchdown on a 4-yard pass from Ryan Mallett.
5. D.J. Williams
Tight end D.J. Williams plays well against South Carolina. The senior out of Central Arkansas Christian in Little Rock had a career-best game against the Gamecocks last season with 137 yards. Saturday, he recorded a season-best night with 67 yards on five catches.
