Blog: Farmer’s Status Remains Uncertain

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas guard Jemal Farmer’s status with the team remained in limbo Monday, two days after the the senior was not with the team during the 70-65 win against Alabama.

Arkansas coach John Pelphrey, who said Farmer was dealing with some “personal things” he was “trying to figure out,” had no update on his status before Monday’s practice. In fact, Pelphrey — who has not provided specifics regarding his absence — said he wasn’t sure if Farmer would attend practice as the Razorbacks (12-4, 2-1 in SEC) began preparation for Wednesday’s game at South Carolina (11-5, 2-1).

“I’m supposed to find out in a little bit,” Pelphrey said. “I don’t know.”

Farmer is averaging 3.6 points and 10.7 minutes in 12 games this season. He scored 12 points in Arkansas’ win against Florida Gulf Coast, but has not bee in double figures since.

In fact, Farmer spent most of Arkansas’ first two Southeastern Conference games sitting on the bench. He did not play in the conference opener against Tennessee and was limited to two minutes in the LSU loss last Wednesday night.

Pelphrey said Farmer remains a member of the team, but confirmed he did not practice in the days leading up to the Alabama game. Farmer is averaging 5.2 points a game in his Arkansas career, which included a career-high 28 in his first game against Alcorn State in 2009-10.
