WASHINGTON — Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee appeared on Fox News today to debunk a media-infused rumor that he might jump back into the 2012 presidential race.
Huckabee told Neil Cavuto of Fox News that he is not reconsidering his decision to stay out of the race.
The appearance was aimed at tamping down a Reuters report that sources close to Huckabee said he was reconsidering his decision to forgo the 2012 race.
The article created a buzz today on social media networks Twitter and Facebook among political reporters, analysts and others interested in the battle for the White House.
The “is he running” or “isn’t he running” questions boiled up as polls indicated Republican voters aren’t particularly enamored with the candidates already in the race.
While recent speculation has focused on New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie as a potential entry, the Reuters article pushed Huckabee into the mix — enough so that close associates were quickly discounting the notion.
J. Hogan Gidley, executive director of HuckPAC, said today there was “no truth to the rumors” and that Huckabee “is still content with his decision to say out of the race.”
