Broderick Back
Running back Broderick Green, who tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in spring drills, returned to play Saturday after being sideline for less than six months. He rushed for 25 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries.
“I prayed about the situation. I talked to my family,” said Green, who also dressed out at Alabama last week. “I felt this was the best decision for me. I’m glad I had the chance to come back and help my team.”
Green scored his first touchdown of the year with 9:09 left in the half on a 1-yard run, then added the go-ahead score with 1:41 to play, a 3-yarder. He also helped Arkansas wrap up the win with a 10-yard run on 3rd-and-8 in the final minute.
“It’s great to have him back,” Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino said. “He’s a big, strong, physical runner. He’ll just get better and better as the year goes on.”
Peacock Gets Nod
Junior offensive tackle Jason Peacock got his first start for against Texas A&M. Peacock, listed at 6-foot-4, 334 pounds, replaced freshman Mitch Smothers in the starting lineup.
Smothers was the first true freshman in Arkansas history to start the season opener in the offensive line when he opened against Missouri State. He also started against New Mexico, Troy and Alabama.
Peacock joined center Travis Swanson, guards Grant Cook and Alvin Bailey and tackle Grant Freeman in the starting crew. The other four have started every game; Bailey and Swanson have each started all 18 games of their careers.
No Go, Joe
Joe Adams’ streak of consecutive games with a pass reception ended Saturday at 38. Adams dropped a pass in the end zone in the second period and took quite a jolt in the process. He did not return in the second half, although he remained in uniform, minus his helmet, on the sideline. The end zone pass was the only one thrown his way.
Adams has played in 39 games as a Razorback.
“He got hit in the ribs,” Petrino said. “I don’t know the extent of it. But I was told at halftime that he was out.”
Going into the A&M game, Adams was averaging 12.43 yards each time he touched the ball and was averaging 115 all-purpose yards per game.
Anemic First
Arkansas’ first-quarter rushing attack the past two weeks has netted 3 yards. Against Alabama, the Razorbacks were minus-1 in the first period and against A&M, the Razorbacks gained 4.
TD Passing Streak
Arkansas extended its streak of a passing touchdown to 22 straight games on Saturday against the Aggies. Tyler Wilson hit Jarius Wright for a 68-yard catch and run with 2:26 left the in the opening quarter to extend the streak.
Going into Saturday, the 21-game streak was the longest active streak in the SEC and was the sixth-longest active streak in the country.
Captain Broyles
With Arkansas being the home team in the Southwest Classic against Texas A&M at Cowboys Stadium, the Razorbacks chose to honor former coach and athletic director Frank Broyles.
Broyles, coach of the year six times in the Southwest Conference, was joined at midfield for pregame introductions by R.C. Slocum, former Texas A&M coach.
Ground TDs
Texas A&M scored five rushing touchdowns in the first half Saturday, erasing a mark by the Arkansas defense as being one of only 10 teams in the country to have allowed no more than a single touchdown on the ground.
