Arkansas Baseball Predicted As 2013 SEC Champs

FAYETTEVILLE — The Arkansas baseball team is predicted to win the Southeastern Conference by the league's coaches.

The Razorbacks, who are ranked No. 1 in several preseason polls, return 10 starters and five position players from its 2012 College World Series team. Arkansas received nine of a possible 14 votes as league champions. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams.

Vanderbilt was second in the preseason poll with three votes. Kentucky and LSU earned one vote each.

The Razorbacks also were tabbed as SEC West champs by the coaches, earning 12 of a possible 14 votes to beat out LSU and Mississippi State (one vote each).

Arkansas has won two SEC championships since entering the conference in 1992. The Razorbacks last title came in 2004.

Arkansas will open the 2013 season against Western Illinois at Baum Stadium at 3 p.m. Friday. Junior Ryne Stanek will start on the mound for the Hogs.
