Arkansas-Michigan Announce Home-and-Home Series

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas and Michigan will play a home-and-home football series beginning in 2018.

The two-game nonconference series was announced by the schools Tuesday. The first game will be played on Sept. 1, 2018 in Ann Arbor, Mich. The second game will be played Aug. 31, 2019 in Fayetteville. Both games will serve as season openers.

"We are pleased to be able to add the University of Michigan to our football schedules for the 2018 and 2019 seasons," Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long said in a statement Tuesday. "The home and home series will feature matchups between two tradition rich programs representing two outstanding conferences."

Arkansas and Michigan have only met once. The Wolverines beat Arkansas 45-31 in the 1999 Florida Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Fla.

The 2018 game will be Arkansas' first in the regular season against a Big Ten program since 1981, when the Razorbacks beat Northwestern 38-7 in Little Rock.

Vanderbilt was the last SEC team to play at Michigan in 2006.

Arkansas also has nonconference games against major conference opponents scheduled for 2013 (Rutgers) and 2021 (Texas).

"As a program, we will continue to look for opportunities to schedule high-profile non-conference opponents to further enhance our national profile to complement our competitive Southeastern Conference schedule," Long said.
