LITTLE ROCK — A Mablevale man was arraigned Thursday in federal court on a charge of possession of firearms and explosive material by a convicted felon.
Michael S. Parker, 52, appeared before U.S. Magistrate J. Thomas Ray, said Christopher Thyer, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas. Parker was detained after his arraignment.
Officers from several law enforcement agencies searched Parker’s residence Wednesday and seized a shotgun, a handgun, a stick of military-grade dynamite and 14 high-explosive slurries weighing 1 pound each, Thyer said in a release.
A slurry is a commercially available emulsion explosive. Thyer said it is a relief to authorities and Parker’s neighbors to have the explosives out of Parker’s possession.
“Just one pound of slurry could destroy a vehicle and everything in it,” Thyer said.
