Arkansas vs. Louisiana-Lafayette: Five Keys

1. Win Line Of Scrimmage

Arkansas spent the offseason strengthening its offensive line play and will put the improvement on display today. The bigger, stronger group wants to push around Louisiana-Lafayette’s front, paving the way for a big rushing performance.

2. Avoid Turnovers

Nothing hurt Arkansas more than carelessness last season. The Razorbacks were one of the worst in the country in turnovers and have stressed ball security since the spring. Staying mistake free will be critical to beating ULL today.

3. Bottle Up ULL Run

The Ragin’ Cajuns are a dangerous run team with QB Terrance Broadway (769 yards in 2012) and RB Alonzo Harris (881 yards). The duo helped ULL finish 34th in nation in rushing (193.5 yards). Arkansas must slow ULL’s production today.

4. Curb Pre-Snap Mistakes

Bret Bielema spent the entire offseason telling his team pre-snap mistakes are killers in close games. They got the message, setting a team goal to eliminate them in the opener. Saying it is one thing. Accomplishing it is another.

5. Quality Snaps From Reserves

Weather will be a factor this afternoon with temperatures projected to reach the mid-90s. Bielema said Arkansas won’t necessarily play more players because of the heat, but will turn to the reserves earlier. So Arkansas’ depth will be tested.
