Arkansas vs. Louisiana-Lafayette: Key Matchup

Arkansas LB Jarrett Lake (6-3, 235, Sr.)

Key Statistics: 11 tackles, ½ for loss in 9 games in 2012

Arkansas coach Bret Bielema has raved about Lake’s attitude, energy and performance behind closed practice doors this preseason. The senior hasn’t been on the field much during his career (27 tackles), but will get a chance to prove he’s a starter and key figure in Arkansas’ linebacking corps. The first test isn’t easy. Lake and the Razorbacks will be busy trying to keep ULL dual-threat quarterback Terrance Broadway from enjoying a big day. The Razorbacks failed against dual-threat quarterbacks last season, struggling in losses to ULM and Texas A&M.

Louisiana-Lafayette QB Terrance Broadway (6-2, 211, Jr.)

Key Statistics: 2,842 passing yards, 769 rushing yards in 2012

Broadway didn’t start the 2012 opener, taking over a few weeks into the season after an injury to ULL’s starter. He proved more than capable, leading the Ragin’ Cajuns back to the New Orleans Bowl while setting school records in total offense (3,611 yards) and completion percentage (65.4). He’ll get a chance to build on the success against an Arkansas defense making its debut under new coordinator Chris Ash. No one knows what to expect from the Razorbacks, but Broadway’s mission is clear: Use his arm and legs to guide ULL to its first win against an SEC team.
