FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas receiver D’Arthur Cowan has been suspended for academic reasons once again.
Arkansas coach Bret Bielema announced Thursday afternoon on his Twitter account that Cowan will “concentrate on his academics and putting himself in a position to move forward academically for eligibility and graduation.”
The news came after Cowan missed most of spring practice for academic reasons.
“He has been suspended from all team activities while maintaining full academic support and guidance,” Bielema added through a team spokesperson.
Cowan, a junior, caught 4 passes for 26 yards in six games last season. He missed half of the year after suffering a broken foot during preseason practices.
Cowan has 7 catches for 40 yards during his Arkansas career.
It was not clear if Cowan has a chance to return to team activities for preseason camp, but Arkansas should have more depth to withstand his absence if necessary.
Junior Keon Hatcher is the team’s top returning receiver, while senior Demetrius Wilson is back from a knee injury that sideline him in 2013. The Razorbacks also have Eric Hawkins, Drew Morgan, Damon Mitchell and a signing class that includes Cody Hollister, Jared Cornelius, JoJo Robinson and Kendrick Edwards.
