FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas tight end Hunter Henry has been named to the preseason watch list for the 2014 John Mackey Award.
The Mackey Award is presented annually to the nation’s top tight end. Henry, a sophomore, was one of 40 players named to the preseason watch list Tuesday.
The Little Rock native is one of Arkansas’ top returning receivers after catching 28 passes for 409 yards with four touchdowns as a freshman. Henry earned second-team All-Southeastern Conference honors from the Associated Press and also was named to the conference’s all-freshman team last season.
Former Arkansas tight end D.J. Williams won the Mackey Award in 2010.
Henry is the fourth Arkansas player to land on a preseason watch list this week. Running backs Jonathan Williams and Alex Collins are on the Maxwell Award watch list, while defensive end Trey Flowers is on the Bednarik Award watch list.
