STARKVILLE, Miss. — The Arkansas baseball team (17-10, 4-5 SEC) dropped the series finale at No. 13 Mississippi State (20-10, 6-3) on Sunday, falling 5-1 at Dudy Noble Field.
Chris Oliver (2-3) suffered the loss for the Razorbacks, lasting 6 1/3 innings. He gave up four runs on seven hits, while walking one and striking out three. Colin Poche and Jacob Stone came on in relief and combined to work 1 2/3 innings.
The Razorbacks recorded three of their six hits in the fourth inning when Joe Serrano led off the frame with a double inside the third base bag and Brian Anderson followed with a single up the middle to score Arkansas’ only run. Krisjon Wilkerson followed with a single two batters later, but the Razorbacks stranded runners on the corners to end the threat.
Anderson led the way at the plate with two hits for his team-leading ninth multi-hit game of the year, while four other players recorded hits. Wernes extended his reached base streak to 12 games, the longest of any Arkansas player this season.
The Razorbacks return to action with five games in five days next week, playing host to Nebraska Tuesday and Wednesday, before South Carolina comes to Baum Stadium Thursday-Saturday. First pitch against the Cornhuskers Tuesday is set for 6:35 p.m. and will be televised on Cox Sports Television.
